First Birthday Theme In Your Backyard

A first birthday theme in your own backyard is ideal for your baby’s comfort. There would be no need to transport him from your house to the party venue. What allowances you made for the party venue could be used instead for additional entertainment for the party.

Though a first birthday party is a once in a lifetime occasion, it is ironical that the guest of honor will not remember any of it. The only consoling thought about this is that you can document the event in all ways and media possible and then show it your baby when he or she is older.

A Farm Animal theme is perfect for a backyard party. As invitation, a cowboy hat with a card tucked in its band is a great idea. You can also opt to make your invitations. A nice and unique idea is to cut out the profile shape of a rooster on a brown construction paper, decorate the tail feather with different colored velvet paper for texture. Write the party details at the back using a white marker. Add a clause that it is best if your guests could come dressed as farmers.

Set up the yard to make it look like a barnyard. There are party suppliers that rent out bales of hay and cornstalks. Fill the yard with animal balloons such as pigs, cows, and chickens. Group each animal balloon with regular latex balloons say in fives then tie them up or weigh them down. Cover tables with checkered red and white tablecloths. If you have a toy barn, use it as a centerpiece. Purchase farm animal theme paper plates and cups for the little guests.

For the adults, buy solid color plates and cups preferably in bright red or royal blue. If you have a red toy wagon, set it up with hay for a hay ride. If you have an old pair of overalls and plaid shirt, stuff them with newspaper to make a scarecrow. You can put up the scarecrow out on the front yard with the sign this way to ______ barnyard.

If you have the resources you can hire someone to do some tricks and balloon animals. For other activities, bring in the traditional Simon Says and musical chairs. Buy some inexpensive art kits for the older children. Set up blankets in a shady spot so parents can have a place to put down their babies.

Food! Well, no barnyard party will be complete without the usual corn on the cob, hot-dogs and hamburgers. You can also serve fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Don’t forget the corn bread! Serve your food in wicker baskets and even metal pails or bins – new ones please.

For the cake, you have the option to have an animal-shaped cake or a barnyard scene cake. Make cupcakes with farm animal designs for souvenirs. To round up the party have a pig or cow pull-string pinata filled with goodies.
