First Birthday Party Food
First birthday party food is so much easier if you make the same food for everyone. By now your little one will have started experimenting with finger foods and this is great party food. Little sandwiches filled with mashed banana, cream cheese, jam, Marmite and cheese are tasty for grown ups too, obviously not all together! You could cut the sandwiches bigger for the grownups!Bread sticks, carrot sticks, cucumber and pieces of toast or pitta bread are great finger foods and also great for dips for the adults. Little ones like dips too so you may want to have a few different bowls as things get messy with one year olds around. Fruit salad with big chunky pieces of cut fruit so that your little ones don't choke, fill the bowl with apples, pears, banana, grapes, blueberries, orange, plum, kiwi fruit - lots of different colors to make your guests want to try some.
If your 1st birthday party is during the winter you may want to serve a hot dish; pasta with a sauce would be good for both one year olds and also the adults. You could serve it with garlic bread and pitta bread.Remember that one year olds don't eat a huge amount of food but do create lots of mess - have lots of wipes and kitchen towels ready to mop up after! You may find it easier to serve the first birthday party food as a picnic and have your guests sit on a separate rug, the only problem with this is that they will probably crawl away!
