Feeding A One Year Old
First Birthday Party Food Ideas
Feeding a one year old is not easy, so feeding lots of one year olds at a first birthday party can be daunting, but don't let that spoil your enjoyment of your little ones first birthday party. Here are some easy ideas to take the stress out of catering, it can't all be about the
1st birthday cake?
Or can it? Party Food For your small guests, keep the food simple. It is a given that your guests' mommies will be bringing their own sippy-cups of their baby's favorite drink, but, have water, fruit juice and milk ready for your little guests. Finger food is best for both adults and babies. Make cheese sandwiches and then use a cookie cutter to shape them into small and interesting shapes. Do not overwhelm the babies' taste buds by making sandwich spreads that have strong taste. For example, no baby will love biting into a chicken salad sandwich. Feeding a one year old small snacks such as peanuts is not a good idea as they can choke a baby, plus they may have allergies. If you are in any doubt ask the parents, a good way round this is to put lots of little bits on the table and they can take the bits that they know their little one will enjoy. Yummy Finger Food Note that some of your baby guests may or may not have teeth yet so prepare food for both categories. Cut-up sandwiches is one yummy finger food that they can enjoy nibbling. Small bread sticks dipped in chocolate is a sure hit as almost all babies have a sweet tooth. Have a plate of varied biscuits and cookies. Take a cue from your own baby. Serve what your baby prefers to eat. Though jelly seems to be a great food idea for one-year olds, there is doubt if they will really eat them. Jellies are good play materials for babies!
Serve a bowl of fresh fruits like apple, banana, mango, watermelon, peach, pear and kiwi. Cut them into small size but big enough so as not to make them choking hazards. Bake or buy some scrumptious cup cakes decorated with colorful icing. Babies love ice cream. Have some ready but ask the moms or dads if they want ice cream for their babies. If ice cream seems to be too sugary, serve frozen yogurt instead. Babies love cereals. Have several small bowls filled with different cereals - fruit loops, corn flakes, rice crispies and more. Babies love sweet potato, squash and potato. Serve these root crops cut in small cubes arranged in an attractive platter. If your party is held during the cold months, a nice way to warm up your little guests is to serve soup or a pasta dish. Your little one must have a favorite, if they do then go for that as at least you know someone will enjoy it! For the adults, serve the soup with crackers and you have a really filling birthday snack. Your little guests are more likely to nibble and not eat at all so think of other treats that you can serve. Also you might want to talk with the other parents and see what they think is good party food for feeding a one year old, you could always ask them to bring a dish too!
