1st Birthday Ideas
Traditional 1st birthday ideas follow classic themes and simple things that your baby will recognise. Ducks, stars, teddies, dollies, cars, balls, farm animals, and even tractors! Ducks are great, they will recognise them from their bath time or from when you go to the park to feed them.
Add ducks to your invites and decorations and your cake topper, cut them out of wrapping paper and magazines for an abundance of ducks. Give each child a duck as their party favor and then have buckets of water - make sure it is very well supervised for them to swim in (the ducks not the children) - most children love water so you will need to make sure you have lots of towels with you and warn the parents so that they can bring even more changes of clothes than normal! This works really well if you have sunny weather and outdoor space. If not, have a paint a duck instead!

Print out a duck coloring sheet for everyone and have paints ready and wipes!
Stars are a lovely pretty theme, cut a star out of tin foil to stick to your invites, along with the tag "Which little star is turning?" or similar. You can also make lots of star shapes for your decorations. A sweet party favor for this party would be to have photos of all your little guests and mount them on star shapes with ribbon to hang, put a thank you for sharing my special day on the back with a piccy of your little one, then make some gingerbread stars with a hole so that you can thred the stars together.

A dolly party is a lovely 1st birthday idea for your little girl's party - send the invites out with a little doll and ask them to bring them for a
tea party.
Car themed parties work really well for little boys and they probably have a few cars already in their collection! If you have one of those car mats with roads (if not borrow one) and put lots of cars on the mat to be played with. They will sit there for ages just playing with the wheels! Car themed invites and cakes are a must.
Ball themed parties are fun for girls and boys, the party favor can be their own ball - make sure they are all the same to avoid any tantrums at the party. If you have the weather get all the kiddies outside with their balls it will keep them amused for quite a while. This works for little ones that aren't walking or crawling as you can play roll it and they will spend ages throwing it for you to bring back to them. Other 1st birthday ideas are to visit an indoor play area with the ball pits or you could make one at home. Fill a paddling pool with lots and lots of plastic balls and let the children get on with it. This is not a good idea if you are one of those people who will spend the whole party picking the balls up and putting them back in the pool. You just need to leave them to it and then have an army of help to tidy up afterwards!
