1st Birthday Gift Guide

You want your 1st birthday gift to be something that will be used and played with lots and that is not always the most expensive gift and quite often not the most modern.

At one your child will be wanting to explore everything as much as possible, a very useful gift is a wooden trolley with blocks. These are brilliant in helping them become more confident in walking and they will spend hours taking the blocks in and out of the trolley. As they get older the trolley will become a car for their friends and cuddly toys.

An indoor wooden trike maybe a little advanced for their first birthday but it won't be long before they will be sitting on it and pushing themselves around. This is still used now in our house and is great if you have wooden floors!

Balls are always a hit - more so with boys than girls - I would never have believed the differences between boys and girls started so early but it does.

Cars that are suitable for one year olds need to be chunky with no small parts, hours will be spent holding the car and spinning the wheels.

Building blocks; Mega Blocks and Duplo are both great but just stick with one type if you can otherwise it can get very frustrating when you are one and trying to fit the two types together. Wooden blocks are also good at this age as they stack the bricks on top of each other - more often than not you will be stacking the bricks and they will be knocking them down.

Simple wooden puzzles are good to get at this age as they help develop a number of skills, as well as shape sorters.

Craft activities are also fun, you can get paints, crayons and playdough for one year olds, they will of course still need lots of supervision! 1st birthday gift Bath toys are great as you can never have too many ducks, boats, frogs, sponges and they don't just have to be played with in the bath. Get a big bucket or washing up bowl and put some water in with a few toys, maybe even some bubbles if you are feeling brave and have lots of towels ready!

Dolls for little girls will be loved for many years, don't buy the biggest doll you can find as it often will be bigger than the birthday girl, combine it with a little push chair or stroller and they will be up and walking in no time!

Animals are fun; wooden, soft or plastic will all be played with and one year olds are fascinated with animals - it may give your pet cat or dog a break as well.

Clothes are always very appreciated by the parents as little people grow so fast, it is a good idea to check what they need rather than buying a pretty dress or cute top.

Unique first birthday gifts are those that you can personalize, and there is so much that you can, have a look at these ideas. If you are stuck on what to buy for your 1st birthday gift, drop me a line on the contact form.
